The historic blacksmith shop of Samuel Yellin,
Metalworker was filled with blacksmiths from across Europe.
The artistic and process-oriented tool solutions they
produced reflects that diversity of training and regional
specialties.
These examples of open-face dies were used in the
hot forging of decorative trim or molding. Hot metal was
hammered into these forms producing a 'positive'
form.
Some of these dies were made by driving a cold
master form into the white-hot molding die blank. Others
were formed directly, with fullers or other chasing
tools.
